What Does It Mean to Be Undetectable with HIV?
Becoming “undetectable” is a significant achievement for individuals living with HIV. Antiretroviral (ARV) medications, when taken as prescribed by a healthcare provider, effectively reduce the amount of HIV in the bloodstream to very low levels. This state, known as having an “undetectable viral load” or “viral suppression,” offers remarkable health benefits. People with HIV who achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load not only live longer and healthier lives but also cannot sexually transmit HIV to their partners. This is a game-changer in HIV management and prevention.
Amida Care’s Live Undetectable Program: Incentivizing Viral Suppression
The Amida Care Live Undetectable program is specifically designed to help members adhere to their ARV medication regimens and achieve viral suppression. By enrolling in the Amida Care Undetectable Program, members who are already virally suppressed or become virally suppressed can receive a financial reward. For every three-month period (quarter) that a member maintains an undetectable viral load (less than 200 copies/ml), they are eligible to receive $100. This incentive can total up to $400 per calendar year, providing tangible support for consistent HIV management. Amida Care also connects program participants with personalized support services, determined in collaboration with their Primary Care Provider (PCP), to facilitate their journey towards and maintenance of viral suppression.
