Hands-on Echocardiography Workshops

A core component of this accredited critical care echocardiography training program is the practical, hands-on workshops using live models. These sessions are meticulously structured to build your practical skills in image acquisition and interpretation.

  • Image Acquisition Using Live Models: Gain proficiency in acquiring essential 2D critical care echocardiography views.
    • 2D Critical Care Echocardiography Views: Master the acquisition of standard views including Parasternal long axis, RV inflow view, Parasternal short axis (at aortic, mitral valve (MV), midventricular, and apical levels), Apical 4-chamber (A4), Apical 2-chamber (A2), Apical 3-chamber (A3), Subcostal long and short axis, and Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) views.
    • Critical Care Echocardiography Doppler: Learn to optimize machine controls for accurate Doppler measurements and understand their application in hemodynamic assessment, including Stroke Volume (SV) measurement.
    • Critical Care Echocardiography Diastolic Function: Delve into the assessment of diastolic function by mastering machine controls for Doppler measurements. You will learn to measure Mitral Valve (MV) inflow parameters such as E wave, A wave, and E wave deceleration time, and perform Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI) measurements of lateral MV annulus velocity (e’) to calculate E/e’.
    • Critical Care Echocardiography Right Ventricular Function: Focus on right ventricular assessment, including machine control optimization for Doppler measurements. Learn to measure Tricuspid Annular Plane Systolic Excursion (TAPSE) and Tricuspid Valve (TV) annulus systolic velocity with TDI (s’). You will also identify views for measuring Tricuspid Regurgitation (TR) velocity, including RV inflow, Parasternal Short Axis (PSS) base of TV, and Apical 4-chamber (AP4) views with Color Flow Doppler (CFD) and Continuous Wave (CW) Doppler. The use of IVC assessment for Right Atrial (RA) pressure estimation will also be covered.
    • Critical Care Echocardiography Potpourri: Explore advanced applications including evaluation for aortic stenosis, assessment for dynamic Left Ventricular Outflow Tract (LVOT) obstruction and Systolic Anterior Motion (SAM) using M-mode, lung ultrasound basics, evaluation of septal kinetics with M-mode, and Right Ventricular Outflow Tract (RVOT) assessment with M-mode for tamponade.
    • ASE Views and Segmental Wall Anatomy: Understand the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) recommended views and learn segmental wall motion analysis.
    • Repeated Full ACCE Examinations: Practice and refine your skills through repeated, complete Advanced Critical Care Echocardiography (ACCE) examinations, ensuring competency and confidence.

Interactive Learning and Online Resources

Beyond hands-on workshops, this accredited critical care echocardiography training program includes interactive discussions and valuable online modules to enhance your learning experience.

  • Live Interactive Discussions: Participate in case-based image interpretation sessions, fostering critical thinking and real-world application of learned techniques.

  • Online Modules: Access comprehensive online modules that supplement the hands-on training, providing a robust foundation in critical care echocardiography.

    • The Advanced Critical Care Echocardiography TTE Transthoracic Image Set: Deepen your understanding of transthoracic echocardiography image acquisition and interpretation specific to critical care.
    • Transesophageal Echocardiography: Gain insights into the principles and applications of transesophageal echocardiography in the critical care setting.
    • Doppler: Pitfalls and Optimization: Learn to avoid common pitfalls in Doppler echocardiography and master techniques for optimization to ensure accurate hemodynamic assessments.
    • Controversial Issues With ACCE: Engage with discussions on current controversies and evolving best practices in Advanced Critical Care Echocardiography.
    • National Board of Echocardiography Certification in Advanced Critical Care Echocardiography: Understand the pathway to board certification in Advanced Critical Care Echocardiography through the National Board of Echocardiography, adding a valuable credential to your expertise.
