Empower Student Career Journeys: Join Our Advocacy Program

The Career Development Center (CDC) at CSULB is excited to announce the Career Advocate Program, an initiative designed to empower staff and faculty to become champions for student career success. This comprehensive program equips you with the essential resources, tools, and guidance to effectively support students in making informed decisions about their career paths. By participating in this program, you will directly contribute to fostering a campus-wide culture of career advocacy.

This enriching program is structured as a four-part training series, meticulously crafted to enhance the knowledge of our dedicated staff and faculty. Participants will learn how to leverage our established “Plan Your Future” Models, understand and utilize the diverse CDC services, and become proficient in employment preparation resources. This training is specifically designed to enable you to confidently address career-related inquiries from students, making you a vital resource in their academic and professional journeys.

We highly encourage individuals in student-facing roles, as well as those who supervise student assistants, to enroll in this invaluable series. The Career Advocate Program is an exceptional opportunity to deepen your understanding of career development and enhance your ability to guide and support students in achieving their career aspirations.

Program Participation Requirements:

  • Eligibility: Open to all current staff and faculty members of CSULB.
  • Workshop Attendance: Commitment to attending four workshops scheduled across Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters:
    • Mandatory Workshops: Participation in Workshop 1 (Becoming a Career Advocate), Workshop 2 (Online Career Tools), and Workshop 3 (Adopting “Plan Your Future” Models & Recognition Ceremony).
    • Elective Workshop: Attend one additional CDC workshop or event of your choice from the Career Events Calendar to broaden your engagement with CDC resources.

Workshop 1: Becoming a Career Advocate*

This foundational workshop serves as your introduction to the Career Advocate Program. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of our “Plan Your Future” Models, receive a detailed overview of the extensive services offered by the CDC, and learn practical techniques for effectively navigating CareerLINK, our central career resources platform.

Workshop 2: Online Career Tools*

This session is dedicated to equipping you with the knowledge to effectively utilize and recommend crucial online career exploration and job search tools to students. Learn how to integrate these digital resources into your interactions with students to maximize their career planning and job seeking effectiveness.

Workshop 3: Adopting “Plan Your Future” Models & Recognition Ceremony

This pivotal workshop focuses on the practical application of the “Plan Your Future” Models in guiding students through career exploration, preparation, and the internship and job search processes. Following the workshop, celebrate your achievements in the Career Advocate Program with a special reception and recognition ceremony.

  • Format: In-Person
  • Location: Career Development Center | Brotman Hall 250
