For established patients of Amarillo Family Physicians, accessing healthcare for urgent, non-life-threatening conditions is readily available outside of regular office hours through our dedicated urgent care program. Understanding when and how to utilize these services can ensure you receive timely medical attention when you need it most.
Our urgent care clinic operates on a walk-in basis, meaning no appointment is necessary. However, it’s important to note the specific hours of operation and arrival deadlines to ensure you can be seen by a physician. Weekday urgent care is available Monday through Friday, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with patient arrivals accepted until 7:30 PM.
Weekend availability further extends access to care. On Saturdays, the urgent care clinic is open from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with the last patient accepted at 4:30 PM. Sunday hours are from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and patients must arrive by 4:30 PM. These extended hours are designed to accommodate urgent medical needs that arise outside of typical weekday appointments.
It’s important to understand what constitutes urgent care within our practice. Any visit that is not pre-scheduled or occurs outside of our normal business hours is classified as urgent care. These unscheduled visits are commonly referred to as “walk-ins.” During regular weekday business hours, our physicians primarily see patients by appointment. However, in the evenings, on weekends, and during holidays, our clinic transitions to function as an Urgent Care Center to serve our established patient base.
The evening and weekend clinic is specifically designed to address urgent, but not life-threatening, health concerns. Conditions commonly treated during these extended hours include, but are not limited to:
- Upper respiratory infections
- Congestion and cough
- Common colds
- Influenza (flu) symptoms
- Vomiting and nausea
- Diarrhea
- Allergic reactions
- Minor cuts and lacerations
- Sprains and strains
- Other minor injuries and illnesses
For ongoing or chronic health issues, it is essential to schedule a weekday appointment with your primary care physician. Conditions requiring routine medical care, such as hypertension management, medication refills, depression and anxiety management, migraine treatment, and chronic pain management, are not addressed during evening and weekend urgent care hours. Our after-hours service focuses exclusively on acute, urgent medical needs.
Please be aware that the Amarillo Family Physicians Urgent Care Program during evening and weekend hours is exclusively for established patients. We are unable to accommodate new patients during these extended service times.
Finally, payment for urgent care services is expected at the time of your visit. Ensuring prompt payment helps us maintain the availability of these valuable after-hours services for our patients. We encourage established patients to utilize the Amarillo Family Physicians Urgent Care Program for timely and convenient medical attention for minor illnesses and injuries outside of regular office hours.
