West High proudly holds the distinction of being an IB World School, a designation we’ve cherished since our authorization to offer the IB Diploma Program in 1984. We’ve since become a leading institution in Utah’s IB community, further expanding our commitment to diverse educational pathways by becoming an early adopter of the IB Career-Related Program in 2013. At West High, our IB programs are designed to be inclusive, welcoming students from all backgrounds and offering various routes to engage with the International Baccalaureate during their high school years. We firmly believe in personalized education, recognizing that the ideal path is unique to each student.
Participating in the IB program at West High is achievable through three distinct avenues: the Diploma Program (DP), the Career-Related Program (CP), and individual IB courses. Regardless of the chosen path, the most successful IB students share key traits: they are proactive self-advocates, thoughtful and reflective learners, academically driven, and unafraid to seek clarification and ask questions.
For students interested in enrolling in either the comprehensive Diploma Program (DP) or the focused Career-Related Program (CP), it’s essential to complete the IB application process before the conclusion of their sophomore year. While applications are typically submitted during the 9th or 10th grade, applications are still accepted mid-year of the sophomore year. Students wishing to experience the rigor and global perspective of IB through individual courses, without committing to a full program, should consult with their guidance counselor during sophomore year course selection.
Successful completion of the IB Diploma Program culminates in both a high school diploma and the globally recognized IB Diploma. Students who complete the IB Career-Related Certificate Program earn an IB certificate, validating their specialized skills and knowledge. Both programs offer the potential for significant college credit and advanced standing at universities and colleges around the world, enhancing post-secondary opportunities.
