Wilmington Friends School understands the needs of busy families, offering a comprehensive After School Program (ASP) right in the heart of the 19808 zip code. Our program provides a nurturing and engaging environment for students of various ages, ensuring a seamless transition from the school day to enriching afternoon activities. From our youngest learners to fifth and sixth graders, we’ve designed age-appropriate programs to foster growth, learning, and fun.
After Care Excellence for Lower School Early Years (PS, PK, K)
Our youngest students in PS, PK, and Kindergarten thrive in the lower school early years wing, specifically designed with their needs in mind. This dedicated space boasts classrooms and outdoor play areas perfectly scaled for this age group. The daily schedule is thoughtfully structured, incorporating snack time, captivating story sessions,自由 play, and special activities that spark curiosity. Nature walks encourage exploration, group games promote social skills, and art projects unleash creativity. For parents seeking specialized enrichment, we offer enrollment-based programs such as theatre to build confidence, yoga to promote wellness, outdoor explorers to connect with nature, and Spanish classes to introduce a new language.

Engaging After Care for Grades First Through Fourth
Students in first through fourth grade benefit from a balanced ASP experience that combines organized activities with自由 play. Recognizing the importance of academics, we provide access to a quiet homework room, allowing students to begin or complete assignments in a supportive setting. Our dedicated ASP facility, located in a separate building on the lower school campus, is well-equipped to cater to diverse interests. It features computers for learning and exploration, a kitchen for snack preparation and potential cooking activities, two classrooms for focused group work, and a full-size gym for active play, complemented by an adjacent outdoor playground and a mini turf field for outdoor fun. Beyond the core ASP offerings, students can further personalize their afternoons by signing up for activities like music lessons to nurture musical talents and special-interest clubs to explore hobbies and passions.

After Care Program for Fifth and Sixth Graders: Preparing for Middle School
The after care program for fifth and sixth graders transitions to the Friends middle/upper school campus, providing a taste of the next academic stage. Fifth graders are escorted “up the hill” by faculty members and greeted by an ASP counselor, ensuring a safe and guided transition (in inclement weather, school vans provide transportation). The fifth and sixth grade ASP day commences with a snack and study hall, fostering good study habits (study hall is not held on Fridays). A wide array of activities keeps this age group engaged and entertained, including sports and games for physical activity, computer access for learning and recreation, art projects for creative expression, and the exciting opportunity to attend home athletic events, fostering school spirit and community involvement. Fifth graders also enjoy access to the numerous clubs offered throughout the year, expanding their extracurricular options. In addition to the provided ASP snack, fifth and sixth graders have the added convenience of purchasing food and drinks from the cafeteria using their student accounts, promoting independence and choice.
