Your Mission: Fueling Growth in Indianapolis
As Territory Manager, your primary focus will be to achieve and surpass profitable sales growth within your designated territory of Indianapolis and surrounding areas. You will be responsible for nurturing existing customer relationships and aggressively pursuing new business opportunities. Your strategies will encompass a variety of sales channels, including weekly warehouse orders, convention sales, drop-ship programs, and targeted promotional initiatives.
Your approach will be consultative and customer-centric. You will analyze each prospect and existing customer to understand their unique needs and challenges. Based on this understanding, you will develop and implement tailored sales strategies and solutions that align with both customer objectives and Emery Jensen Distribution’s goals. A key aspect of your role will be identifying and onboarding new Hardware, Pro/Lumber, and Paint Retailers, acting as the crucial link between these customers and Emery Jensen Distribution. Building strong, long-term business relationships will be paramount to your success. Industry engagement is also important, and you may be required to represent Emery Jensen Distribution at key trade shows such as The National Hardware Show and The IGC Show.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Driving Sales and Building Relationships
In this exciting role, your daily activities will be diverse and impactful:
- Strategic Sales Planning & Execution: Develop and implement a comprehensive sales plan designed to achieve annual sales and profit targets. This involves engaging both current and prospective retailers to expand Emery Jensen Distribution’s customer base within the Indianapolis territory.
- Professional Representation: Uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions, representing Emery Jensen Distribution with integrity.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate and strengthen robust business relationships with key decision-makers at customer accounts to foster overall business growth for Emery Jensen Distribution.
- Customer Engagement: Organize and prioritize weekly sales calls to effectively manage your territory and meet Emery Jensen Distribution’s sales objectives.
- Internal Communication & Collaboration: Maintain open and effective communication with the Emery Jensen Leadership Team, proactively reporting both successes and challenges to gain valuable insights and support. Collaborate closely with the internal Sales Support Team, the Care Center, and other internal partners to ensure timely resolution of customer issues and inquiries.
- Teamwork & Knowledge Sharing: Actively participate and contribute to the Emery Jensen Distribution team by sharing successful sales strategies, ideas, and best practices to contribute to collective goal achievement.
- Expense Management: Demonstrate responsible and sound judgment in managing business expenses, including travel and entertainment, and company vehicle related costs, adhering to company policies and guidelines related to the Ace Hardware employee car programs which efficiently support your territory management activities.
What You Bring to the Table: Skills and Experience
To thrive in this Territory Manager role, you will possess:
- Proven Sales Success: A demonstrated and verifiable track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets.
- Self-Motivation & Results-Orientation: A highly motivated self-starter with a strong results-oriented approach, focused on delivering customer-centric solutions.
- Business-to-Business Sales Expertise: 5 or more years of successful experience in Business-to-Business sales is highly preferred.
- Industry Knowledge (Preferred): Experience in hardware and retail sales is a significant advantage.
- Exceptional Communication Skills: Excellent listening, negotiation, verbal, and written communication abilities.
- Strategic Thinking & Planning: Strong strategic thinking skills with a proven ability to develop and implement effective sales growth plans.
- Project Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and opportunities simultaneously.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Travel Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the territory, including overnight travel as needed.
- Valid Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required for this field-based position, essential for utilizing Ace Hardware employee car programs.
- Educational Background: A BA/BS degree or equivalent is preferred.
- Location Preference: Preferred residence within the Indianapolis, IN, metro area.
Compensation and Benefits: Investing in Your Future

- Competitive Salary: Expected base salary range of $75,000 – $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
