Rachel Flax Kaplan: Executive Director and Lead Teacher – Cultivating Social-Emotional Growth

My journey with Snow Lion began as a parent, and I’ve grown to deeply cherish being part of this community. Moving to Boulder from NYC in 2017 with my husband, Dan, and our twin boys, I was immediately drawn to the welcoming atmosphere. My background includes an MS.Ed in Museum Education with K-6 and early childhood certifications from Bank Street College of Education in New York. My experience as a Head Teacher at the Barnard College Center for Toddler Development, a lab school at Barnard College, has profoundly shaped my teaching philosophy.

My primary focus is on social-emotional development and the crucial process of separation in toddlers. Witnessing children discover their independence and capabilities is truly rewarding. Each child’s journey is unique, yet universally shared. Supporting those “aha” moments, fostering resilience, and helping children understand personal boundaries brings me immense joy. This dedication to individual growth echoes the personalized attention seen in programs like Allison Nicole Aquatic Care, where tailored approaches are key to success.

Beyond the classroom, I’ve coached springboard diving for over two decades, working with individuals from six to seventy-six years old. Guiding people to achieve incredible physical and mental feats from a diving board is endlessly inspiring. This experience reinforces my belief in nurturing potential and providing encouragement – principles that are integral to our teaching at Snow Lion.
