Delaware’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Program: Drive Electric and Save

The State of Delaware is committed to promoting clean transportation and improving air quality through the Clean Vehicle Rebate Program. This initiative offers significant financial incentives for Delaware residents and businesses to adopt electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. By participating in this program, you can reduce your carbon footprint, contribute to a greener Delaware, and save money on a new or used clean vehicle.

Understanding the Delaware Clean Vehicle Rebate Program

The Delaware Clean Vehicle Rebate Program is designed to encourage the adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Unlike a tax credit, this program provides a direct cash rebate, making it immediately beneficial at the point of purchase. It’s a straightforward way to lower the upfront cost of transitioning to a cleaner vehicle.

Key Points to Note:

Rebate Amounts Effective May 1, 2024

The rebate amounts vary based on the type of vehicle and its base MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) or fair market purchase price for used vehicles. Here’s a breakdown of the current rebate structure:

Vehicle Type & Technology Base MSRP/Fair Market Price Limit Rebate Amount
New Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) Below $40,000 $2,500
New Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) $40,000 – $50,000 $1,500
New Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEVs) Below $50,000 $1,000
Used Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) $40,000 or less $2,500
Used Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEVs) $40,000 or less $1,000
Note: Used vehicle fair market value is determined by Kelley Blue Book.
