The Animal Care and Training (ANCT) Program at Moorpark College stands as a pioneering initiative, established in 1974. Visionary Professor Bill “Briz” Brisby laid the foundation with a single wolf, “Kiska,” fostering a program that has since become a hallmark of experiential learning. In 1990, the program expanded to its current five-acre site, overlooking the picturesque Moorpark College campus. This location is home to The Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College, a unique educational resource and one of only two college campus zoos in the nation. Housing approximately 125 diverse animals, The Teaching Zoo serves as an unparalleled “living classroom.” Here, students engage directly with domestic and non-domestic species, honing the essential skills needed to excel in animal care facilities worldwide.
