Our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program represents our dedication to providing essential animal care services within the community, specifically focused on the humane and effective management of feline populations in Greenville County. TNR is a cornerstone of responsible animal care, offering a compassionate and sustainable solution to community cat management. By participating in our Community Cat Program, you directly contribute to improving the lives of these outdoor felines and reducing overpopulation in our area.
Through our TNR initiative, community cats in Greenville County receive vital animal care services. This includes spaying or neutering to prevent further litters, administering crucial vaccinations to protect their health and the community’s, and ear-tipping as a universally recognized symbol of sterilization. This comprehensive approach to animal care helps to break the cycle of reproduction, leading to a decrease in shelter intake and a healthier community for both humans and animals. We invite Greenville County residents to join us in making a positive impact on the lives of community cats by utilizing our free TNR services.
Free Community Cat TNR Services for Greenville County Residents
We are pleased to offer our comprehensive Community Cat TNR services completely FREE of charge to residents of Greenville County. To qualify for these animal care services, the outdoor cat must reside within Greenville County. Please note that availability for our TNR program is on a first-come, first-served basis each day, and we have a daily limit to ensure we can provide the best possible care to each animal. We do not currently offer appointments for community cat TNR due to high demand and limited capacity. Regrettably, we are unable to extend our TNR services to individuals or cats residing outside of Greenville County at this time. How Our Community Cat Animal Care Program Works
To access our community cat animal care services through the TNR program, please follow these guidelines:
- We accept community cats for TNR check-in Monday through Thursday. Services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and we recommend arriving early, ideally before our 8:00 AM check-in start time, as demand is high. We operate until we reach our daily capacity. Please be aware of a limit of 2 cats per household per day.
- Cats must be brought in humane live traps, with one cat per trap. This ensures the safety and comfort of the cats and efficiency of our check-in process.
- For the safety of both people and animals and to maintain an efficient check-in flow, we operate a curb-side service line. Please remain with your trapped cat(s) outdoors while waiting for check-in to begin and be prepared for potential weather conditions.
- The check-in process can take 30 minutes or longer once it begins, so please allocate sufficient time in your schedule.
- As part of our animal care services, each community cat will receive core vaccinations if needed, undergo spay or neuter surgery, and be ear-tipped and tattooed as universal symbols of sterilization.
- Following the procedure, you will be responsible for returning the community cat to its original location or immediate vicinity outdoors. It is crucial not to relocate community cats to different neighborhoods. Relocating cats can disrupt the ecological balance and create a “vacuum effect,” leading to an increase in cat populations in the area you removed them from and potentially in the new area.
Humane Trapping for Community Cat TNR
Participation in our Community Cat TNR program requires cats to be brought in humane cat traps, one cat per trap, with a limit of two cats per household daily. It is vital to use humane traps specifically designed for cats, as rodent traps are smaller and can cause serious injury. If you need assistance with trapping, we offer resources to help. Please call or text us at (864) 467-3951 for information on renting or purchasing humane live traps.
