- Medication Assisted Treatment Induction: For individuals with alcohol or opioid dependence, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) induction can be initiated during withdrawal management to ease the transition into longer-term treatment.
- Naloxone Training: To enhance safety and preparedness, Naloxone training for opioid overdose reversal is offered to all treatment participants.
Eligibility for Withdrawal Management:
To be eligible for Withdrawal Management Services, individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Exhibiting signs of alcohol or drug intoxication or withdrawal.
- Referred by a treatment provider for residential substance abuse treatment evaluation.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Not requiring immediate medically-assisted withdrawal management in an acute medical setting or inpatient psychiatric care.
- May have co-occurring mental health conditions that are stable enough for this level of care.
- Willing to cooperate with program requirements and provide basic identifying information.
- Agree to comply with program rules and procedures.

Detention Facility Jail-Based Services: Addressing Substance Use Within the Justice System
We extend our commitment to recovery to individuals within the Arlington County Detention Facility, offering vital services to prevent further deterioration and involvement in criminal activities related to substance use.
- ACT Program: The Arrest and Court Treatment (ACT) Program is designed to prevent the worsening of substance use disorders among incarcerated individuals and prepare them for successful recovery upon release.
- Mental Health Jail Treatment Unit Support: We collaborate with the Mental Health Jail Treatment Unit to provide crucial support in suicide prevention and facilitate psychiatric and behavioral stabilization for inmates with co-occurring mental health needs.
- Continuity of Care: Both the ACT Program and the Mental Health Jail Treatment Unit prioritize connecting individuals with outpatient or residential aftercare settings to ensure a seamless transition and continued support upon release from incarceration.
Eligibility for Arlington County Behavioral Health Care Alcohol and Drug Program Services
To access our comprehensive services, clients must have a substance use problem and/or mental illness and meet at least ONE of the following criteria:
- Resident of Arlington County.
- Experiencing homelessness.
- Recipient of Medicaid benefits.
- Resident in an Arlington psychiatric hospital, jail, or other qualifying facility.
Priority Populations:
In alignment with our commitment to equitable access, priority is given to:
- Pregnant and post-partum women.
- Individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
- Intravenous drug users.
All individuals seeking help for a substance use problem are screened to determine the most appropriate services. Pregnant women are given immediate priority and are typically seen within 48 hours of initial contact. Residential services are specifically available for Arlington residents who require a more intensive level of treatment than outpatient services can provide and who lack the financial resources for private residential treatment.
Fees and How to Apply
- Sliding Fee Scale: We are committed to making treatment affordable and utilize a sliding fee scale based on income to ensure equitable access.
- Insurance Billing: For clients with health insurance, we will bill their insurance provider accordingly.
