The landscape of Army civilian career management is undergoing a significant transformation with the establishment of the Army Civilian Career Management Activity (ACCMA). This pivotal change consolidates various career programs into a streamlined, efficient structure designed to enhance career development and management for Army civilians. Formerly scattered across different departments, 32 career programs, along with elements of G-3/5/7 DAMO-TRV and AG-1CP, have merged to form ACCMA. Reporting directly to the Director of the Civilian Human Resources Agency (CHRA) and accountable to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civilian Personnel) (DASA(CP)), ACCMA is set to revolutionize how civilian careers are nurtured and advanced within the Army.
This reorganization is not merely structural; it’s a strategic move to integrate the previously fragmented 32 career programs into 11 comprehensive career fields. This integration is supported by the creation of operations and plans offices, alongside a centralized support office, ensuring a cohesive and effective approach to career management. Governance and strategic direction are provided by the newly formed Civilian Career Management Council, chaired by the DASA(CP) and comprising Functional Chiefs from each of the 11 career fields. This council is instrumental in shaping career management policies and resource allocation. While the operational staff transitions to CHRA, Senior Executive Service leaders will maintain their crucial leadership roles in integrating and managing career functions within their respective functional areas.
