Training Breakdown: A Step-by-Step Approach
The tmc patient care tech training program is an eight-week intensive course specifically crafted to introduce you to the healthcare environment and the critical role of a PCT at TMC. The program’s initial two weeks are dedicated to classroom instruction and hands-on skills lab sessions. These foundational weeks cover the essential basics required for the patient care technician/assistant role. The TMC Clinical Education team leads these sessions at various locations across the TMC campus, ensuring convenient access and a focused learning environment.
Week three marks your transition into a real clinical setting within a TMC Unit. This crucial week allows you to integrate the theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired in the classroom and skills lab into a live healthcare environment. This immersion facilitates a seamless transition and prepares you for the realities of patient care.
Week four combines continued clinical practice with specialized classroom sessions focusing on advanced skills. This week culminates in a Final Written Exam to assess your theoretical understanding and a Final Skills Test to evaluate your practical competencies. Successful completion of these evaluations marks a significant milestone in your tmc patient care tech training program journey.
Weeks five through eight are dedicated to a Transition to Practice / Preceptorship phase. During this period, you will work closely with experienced PCTs and healthcare professionals, further refining your skills and gaining invaluable on-the-job experience. This mentored approach ensures you are well-prepared for independent practice. Weeks nine and ten involve a validation process conducted by an RN. This final validation confirms your readiness and competency to practice as a Patient Care Technician at TMC.
Candidates must be available for training between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Upon successful completion of the tmc patient care tech training program, you will be assigned to a 12-hour shift, either days or nights, to accommodate the 24/7 needs of patient care. All candidates are required to sign a one-year employment contract with TMC. As part of the interview process, candidates will also participate in a unit shadowing experience. This provides a firsthand look into the PCT role and the TMC patient care environment, ensuring a well-informed decision for both the candidate and TMC.
