Children’s National Hospital has once again been recognized for its commitment to nursing excellence, securing Accreditation with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for its New Graduate Nurse Residency Program, also known as the Transition to Practice Program. This prestigious award, the highest level of recognition offered by ANCC, marks the second time the hospital has achieved this milestone.
The ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP) sets rigorous, evidence-based standards for programs that support registered nurses (RNs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) entering new practice environments. Accreditation signifies that Children’s National Hospital’s Transition to Practice Program provides nurses with a curriculum that fosters the essential knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors necessary for delivering safe and exceptional patient care. This emphasis on structured transition programs is vital in developing competent and confident nurses ready for demanding roles, potentially including intensive care settings.
“The Transition to Practice Program at Children’s National Hospital is among an elite group of 145 programs nationwide to hold this distinguished accreditation, and we are proud to be the sole hospital in Washington, D.C., with this recognition,” stated Linda B. Talley, MS, RN, NE-BC, FAAN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer. “This ANCC accreditation establishes a global benchmark for nurse residency programs, affirming our dedication to providing registered nurses with superior transition experiences as they embark on new practice journeys. We commend every individual whose hard work and dedication contributed to this achievement and for their unwavering commitment to providing outstanding care to our patients and their families each day.”
