Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) had cast a long shadow over my life for years. It’s crucial for people to understand that OCD is far more complex than simple quirks like flicking light switches or excessive handwashing. It’s a debilitating condition where intrusive thoughts drive irrational behaviors, and it was this reality that led me to seek help at the Aamh Partial Care Program.
Initially, the manifestation of my OCD symptoms was met with misunderstanding and stigma. My family, struggling to comprehend what I was going through, attributed my behaviors to supernatural causes, making me feel isolated and inherently flawed. This experience is unfortunately common for individuals battling mental health conditions like OCD. As my symptoms intensified and began to disrupt my daily life, my family recognized the urgent need for professional medical intervention. My first experience with hospitalization, lasting over two weeks, unfortunately did not yield effective treatment strategies, particularly in terms of medication management. It was not until I found AAMH that my path to recovery truly began.
The turning point came with AAMH’s dedicated team of doctors who meticulously worked to establish the correct medication regimen for me. Crucially, they were instrumental in encouraging me to participate in the Partial Care Program. This program, combined with the precisely tailored medical treatment, proved to be transformative. Through the AAMH Partial Care Program, I gained invaluable tools and techniques to manage my OCD symptoms effectively. The program’s comprehensive approach has empowered me to the point where my symptoms have become significantly less intrusive in my daily life. The counselors, interns, and the entire supportive staff at AAMH have played an indispensable role in my healing journey.

Beyond the medical and therapeutic benefits, I discovered unexpected joys and stress relief within the program’s support groups – even finding cleaning the kitchen surprisingly therapeutic! Perhaps most significantly, I forged meaningful friendships at AAMH, something I had never anticipated given my initial shyness and social anxieties upon joining the program.
One of my proudest achievements during my time with the AAMH Partial Care Program has been successfully balancing college coursework alongside my treatment. While I acknowledge that my nearly two years in the program mark ongoing progress and that there are still future milestones to reach, I am filled with confidence that I will achieve these goals. This newfound assurance is a direct result of the unwavering support and comprehensive care I have received at AAMH.
