Established in 1974, the Animal Care and Training (ANCT) Program at Moorpark College boasts a rich history of blending academic learning with invaluable real-world experience. Professor Bill “Briz” Brisby pioneered the program with a single animal, “Kiska” the wolf, laying the groundwork for what has become a nationally recognized program. In 1990, the program expanded, relocating to its current 5-acre site overlooking the picturesque Moorpark College campus. This site is home to The Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College, a unique educational resource and one of only two college campus zoos in the United States. Housing approximately 125 animals, The Teaching Zoo serves as an unparalleled “living classroom” for ANCT students. This extraordinary collection of domestic and non-domestic animals provides students with hands-on opportunities to learn about a wide array of species and develop essential skills for animal care facilities of all types.
