AppleCare Pilot Program Extends Coverage Window for iPhone, iPad, and More

Apple is quietly testing a new initiative in select Apple Stores across the United States and Canada, offering customers a second chance to purchase AppleCare+ for their devices beyond the standard 60-day purchase window. This AppleCare pilot program provides a valuable opportunity for customers who may have initially missed the deadline but now desire the comprehensive protection plan.

This limited-time Apple Care Pilot Program allows eligible customers to add AppleCare+ to their devices between 61 days and up to one year after the original purchase date. Previously, enrollment in AppleCare+ was strictly limited to within 60 days of device purchase. Now, through this pilot, a broader window is temporarily available.

To take advantage of this program, customers need to schedule a Genius Bar appointment at a participating Apple Store. During this appointment, an Apple technician will conduct a thorough diagnostics test and perform a visual inspection of the device. This evaluation ensures the device is in good working order and eligible for the extended coverage. The program currently applies to iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches, and may potentially include Macs and other Apple devices, though confirmation on all device types is still pending.

AppleCare+ offers significant benefits, including extended hardware coverage for two or three years depending on the device type. Furthermore, it provides access to expert technical support and importantly, covers up to two incidents of accidental damage, each subject to a service fee. This protection can be invaluable, offering peace of mind against unexpected repairs or replacements.

Currently, the AppleCare pilot program is available in approximately 50 Apple Store locations within the United States and across all 29 stores in Canada. The duration of this pilot program remains uncertain, so customers interested in this extended enrollment opportunity are encouraged to inquire at their local Apple Store as soon as possible to determine availability and eligibility. This initiative demonstrates Apple’s commitment to customer satisfaction and providing flexible options for device protection.
